I offer up to you the most wonderful, Bini. I know he's an old dog, frail and silly looking as he singly possesses every physical fault listed in the ig standard, but, he really is a champion as dignified, proud and resilient as they come. He's survived starvation, neglect and abandonment, seizures, a bad heart, kidney failure, many cancers (one of which he lost his leg to) and the indignity of having no teeth. He's battled them all and won those encounters valiantly with his head held high, but he can't win this one last fight and his body is so so tired.
The Beans, in his life with me, did a tour of duty as a small dog tester for newly retired greyhounds at our local GPA chapter. He's been an ambassadog for IGC Rescue adoption, an excellent teacher to all the fosters who have spent time here. From the broken that stayed while they healed, the rude youngsters who needed some house and pack manners before adoption and the old terminally ill ones who needed a home before their time to cross the bridge came, Bini accepted them all including a couple of new additions to his regular family. He just finished being Obi Wan to puppy Eddie. Bini taught him to respect and be gentle with the elder and infirm, where to potty and where the very best bushes to pee on were located among the shrub labyrinth that is the back yard. He's been my bed warmer, tv partner, neighborhood strolling pal and my devoted little friend. The old man has given his all.
If there are dog shows at the Bridge, God, The Beans, is a professional mascot. He especially loves riding to away shows, staying in hotels and cheering on the home team.
Bini's an easy little man not at all a bother. He'll need someone to soften his food so he can eat and if there is chicken on the menu (his most favorite) he'll need it cut up small for him to gum. He likes to go to bed around 9 pm but will need someone to lift him up and tuck him under the covers of the Big Bed. He can no lpnger jump with only one back leg that has grown weak with age. If he has a dog friend to snuggle with he'll be happy to share. Bini also really loves to cuddle with his person whenever they are stationary.
He leaves many friends behind as he was greatly admired and loved. I know he has friends at the Bridge, his greyhound brothers Finn, Griff, and Sudsey Smith who have gone before, Rosie and Ice, foster iggies who lived here till their time came and his favorite girlfriend Bernie who also had no teeth. He'll want to see them all.
So, God, reluctantly I'm entrusting this wonderful boy to your care now. I've done all I can for him here on earth and loved him deeply. Please, love him as much as I do. He's a remarkable old trooper and leaves a huge hole in my heart. Sleep well my Bini boy.
Momma to The Beans,
