This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

Three years ago tomorrow, my precious Tara left me to go to the Rainbow Bridge. I am writing about her today because I have a busy day tomorrow, which will probably help me to make it through the tough day. On Friday, July 13, 2007, we were out on a walk when a big Bernese Mountain dog came bounding after Tara. The dog was not on a leash and Tara was terrified. She pulled hard on her leash, slipped her martingale, and was hit by a car. Tara died instantly and a piece of my soul died with her. Life will never be the same again.

Tara was my first dog ever and my introduction to the wonderful world of IGs. She was born on St. Patrick's Day in 2002, a Marchwind pup. A few months later, Tara came to RI to live with my friend and breeder, Kathy, and the other Tebo Italian Greyhounds. Tara was a show dog and she had one litter of 3 puppies. She was a wonderful mother and always enjoyed trying to nurse and mother small puppies during visits to Kathy's house even after her pups were grown. When her puppies were weaned, Tara came to live with me. I had no idea how head over heels in love I'd fall for her.

Tara had so much love to give and her favorite thing to do was snuggle in my arms or lap and be patted. She got her Canine Good Citizen certificate and we became a certified pet therapy team. We visited a nursing home every week and Tara was even on the TV news for her work there. She also visited the school where I teach as a reward for the students. Tara was loved by all.

Not long after I got Tara, she developed microvascualr dysplasia, a disorder in which the liver cannot process animal proteins. These proteins are released into the bloodstream and cause seizures. I was terribly scared by her seizures, but Tara accepted the resulting diet restrictions and she was even happy to eat her new prescription diet for treats. She had very few seizures after she was diagnosed and treated.

Today I wear a necklace with a bone-shaped pendant. Some of Tara's ashes are in the pendant so I can have her close to my heart. I try to cherish every moment with Allie and Riley in Tara's memory.

Thank you for reading my tribute to my gorgeous girl. It helps me to know that you all understand my sadness as I remember her tomorrow. I have unbounding happy memories of Tara, but this anniversary never gets any easier.

I love you and miss you terribly, princess Tara and I will see you again at the Bridge.

The attached picture was taken on Tara's last birthday - all decked out in her St. Patrick's Day attire.
Regards from Deb, Allie (6/1/07), and Riley (2/20/09)

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind words about my tribute and my wonderful Tara. I've found myself teary a lot today just thinking about what a shame it is that Tara isn't still with me now. It helps a lot to know that such wonderful people are thinking about me and her. It really doesn't get any easier with the passing years. I spent a lot of time doting on Allie and Riley today and telling them about their sister Tara. When Allie was a tiny puppy, Tara used to go to daycare at my breeder's house and lay with Allie's litter, attempting to nurse the pups. Therefore, Allie did have the opportunity to meet Tara and cuddle with her before she was gone. Allie is also the daughter of Merry, who was Tara's best buddy at daycare. Thanks again for reading about Tara and offering your words of encouragement.
