We decided last night after we got the call about Maggie's biopsies to let her go, she had suffered enough already.

She was down to 11 pounds from the 18 pounds she was just 1 1/2 months before. She had no quality of life, she just layed on the couch unmoving and stared at us.

I took her to the vet and held her in my arms as they injected her, it took them 3 pokes because her veins kept collasping.

She put her little head on my chest and went to sleep peacefully.

She's no longer in pain.

This is Maggie's Story

She was taken from her canine mommy at 8 weeks and brought to a house with 4 boys under 10 years, she lived with them for 4 months and was given up because they blamed her for purposely peeing in the house. We brought Lance with us to see if she would be compatible and it was like they remembered each other, they were siblings from the same litter. It was love at first site for Lance and us.

When we brought her home she was underweight and not very trusting, the family before us were neglectful with her.

Soon after coming to live with us she developed seperation anxiety, when speaking with a animal communicator she told us Maggie said she was worried that we would abandon her because she loved it with us and it would hurt her to leave.

To be truthful, I didn't want a second dog, I was happy with just Lance. I don't know how it happened but Maggie wormed her way into my heart and became my heart dog.

It took her 3 years to fully accept that we wouldn't abandon her, but when she finally realized it her true self came out. She didn't just want to be next to you, she had to be on you. She wouldn't just sleep next to you, she had to have a part of her body on you. She loved to snuggle on you. She also loved to groom her people, she couldn't go to sleep at night unless she groomed both hubby and I and if we tried to stop her she would just start from the beginning. She was always ready to give kisses.

She was such a happy little girl, always wagging her tail even for the smallest of things. And she never walked anywhere, she always had to run.

It was so hard to see her sick, it sucked the very life out of her. Maggie wasn't Maggie. She was a little trooper, never complaining about all the poking, proding and being left for days at MSU and she managed to charm everyone at MSU and our Vets office.

The last couple days all she did was lay on the couch, never moving and stared at us. I knew what she was trying to convey, but I wanted to hear the biospy results first. Praying for that miracle that never came.

When we talked with the animal communicator a few years ago Maggie had said she knew she would go first because she couldn't live without Lance in her life.

I just don't know how I am going to live without her in my life.

Maggie yesterday afternoon

Run free Maggie, until you and Momma meet again.

My heart aches for you and your hubby Machelle. Be strong, and rest in the thought you unselfishly released her to go home.

This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

Machelle, that is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful heart dog. Thank you for making the difficult decision to let Maggie go when she was suffering. That had to be terribly heart-wrenching. I wish there was something I could do to ease your pain. Please be good to yourself during this difficult time. Cherish little Lance. I'm sure he misses his sister, too.

My heart breaks for you and your girl, and Lance too. Words just can't express. . . I've been there too. I am glad that you were able to hold on for a diagnosis, and you can be sure that you did your best by her. So sorry for your loss. Your tribute was beautiful and I am crying with you today.

It is a sad, sad day. My husband has been asking after little Maggie since I first told him of her troubles and his heart sank at this news. We risk this loss to have the partnership and one day, as we think back on it, our frown turns upside down and we smile in gratitude for the gift of the dog.

Machelle, I am so sorry. Your wonderful tribute spoke of the special connection between you and Maggie. She was a beautiful girl and it seems so unfair that you were together for such a short time.
I hope that soon you will be able to remember Maggie with a smile. Take care of yourself and Lance.
Run free, sweet Maggie!

I grieve with you. I know that Maggie is now pain free and running with all her Iggie friends who went before her but it still does not take away the pain that I know you feel right now. Take care of yourself and, of course, Lance, as he must miss her all the more. What a life she led from the beginning and to "find" you and Lance must have taken her breath away at the time. How brave you all have been. Peace.

She is a beauty! My prayers and well wishes are with yall in this time of grief. I know Maggie is thankful for the life you have given her, as well as your intuition and selflessness in letting her rest peacefully when this life no longer remained comfortable for her. Many, many hugs to you all.

Oh Machelle, you did the toughest thing a mom could do, give that one last act of kindness to Maggie. You loved her and respected her. How happy she has been these all too short years with you. She knew she was loved. I'm so so sorry.

Run free sweet Maggie Mae.
