I woke up around 5 AM. Something was off. The dogs were all over to one side of me, awake but quiet. Normally when they see me wake up they rush to kiss me and hound me for breakfast. Vegas was beside me. Her body was still warm. She looked alll cuddled and peaceful.

How did this happen so quickly? Thursday she was off her food. Then Friday. But, she was drinking liquids. On Saturday she took a turn. In the afternoon I was wondering if I should take her to the ER Vet. But, they would take her away from me, poke and prod her and not respect to give us a space to let her go if it was time. I told Vegas that I needed her to let me know what she wanted. She jumped up and went over and started to drink water. I took that as a sign she was feeling better. But, now I realize she was telling me she wanted to stay at home. I did not go anywhere yesterday. I actually stayed next to her, petting her, talking to her all day. The other dogs did not bother her even once.

So, I picture this darling girl with two eyes, vocal chords to bark, no tatoo, no scars on her body....running and playing....no pain....just pure happiness at the Rainbow Bridge.

I just didn't think this would happen so fast. I just hope her last day was a good one. I just hope she felt the love and that this is what she really wanted. I think it was.

This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

Tears are streaming down my face as I read your beautiful goodbye to your Vegas. I wish I could offer some words of comfort, but I know the feeling of emptiness that a lost IG brings. All I can do is thank you for making her life happy at the end. Thank goodness she passed right next to you, right where she belonged. I will say a prayer for your darling and for you and I will hold my girls a little closer today in her memory. Be good to yourself.

It is so great that she was given the time in her life to be loved by you. There don't seem to be words that comfort when a pet leaves us, but know that you are in the company of those that understand. I believe heaven is filled with all of our family-human, furry, feathered, etc all restored to health and vitality and all together. Vegas is there now with those that went before and prepared a place for her, and as we grieve her loss, the angels are welcoming her home. I hope you can feel some peace in knowing that she doesn't hurt anymore and comfort in the warm memories shared. Take care,

Sarah

Difficult to read this without tears. I am so sorry for your loss. How very fortunate that Vegas found her way to you and that you were able to give her love and support and understanding of what she wanted in the end. You are in my thoughts. May Vegas run painfree and enjoy her time at the rainbow bridge, hopefully she will have fun with my Wiley.

Love you all for your very special and heartfelt replies. I am still kind of in shock. I still can't believe she is gone. I wait to hear her chirp....she could not bark....and miss it so. I wait her feel her press against me. I wait to feel her lick my hand, my foot, whatever she wanted to use to tell me she loved me. I miss her one eyed look. I miss her, I miss her, I miss her. I am grateful that she chose to go...that she did not suffer...that she was beside me and warm and loved until her last breathe. But, I still cannot believe it. I am so blessed with all of you that embraced Vegas. She was a special girl. I know she is running free.

How lucky she was to spend her last days being loved and knowing the kindness of people. I know she will be missed and tears will be shed for her, but it sounds like heaven will be getting a very special girl.
Honored to serve Gary- a very important IG (as far as he is concerned)

My Princess left me very suddenly. She always slept in the same spot right next to me. For the next few nights after she passed I felt her warm little body in her old familar spot. Vegas will make sure that you are ready before she leaves you.

I do wish she will be happy at the rainbow bridge just like you mentioned. I know her loss is the hardest thing for you,but please tke care of yourself.

You gave her exactly what she wanted and needed until the end. May we all be blessed with such a peaceful and loving parting with our sweet ones.
I will always remember Vegas, you both have left a remarkable story of love. I also see her restored to her full health and beauty, living in a place where everything is soft and warm and there are lots of angels laps to rest upon. She was a very special girl, Maureen.
How lucky you were to have had each other. Hugs to you.. Rose.gif

M<aureen,

I'm so sorry for the empty spot in your heart. I know how it hurts. Vegas was curled up with mommy in the comfy bed along with her family. She went in total peace I'm sure. No dog could mistake the total love that surrounded her. Fly free sweet old girl.
