I have a business arrangement with a local dog boutique, and they have one of my small paintings on display there, but I know that a large painting will attract a lot more attention, and hopefully business. Therefore, I am painting yet another portrait of my own little Pixel on very large scale to be displayed there. The larger eye on this painting is about three inches across. Painting this large is fun, but also very challenging. With my usual portraits, I can suggest a shadow or the direction of hair growth with a few quick strokes, but when you blow it up like this, the rules are totally different. I can and do spend hours working to get all of those little hairs just right.
I am trying to decide what color to put in the background. I am thinking some kind of pink, if I can get away with that without it looking too girly girl. What do you guys think?
You can view the painting on my blog. I should have it completed soon, so I will be updating.

OMG Gwen! That is amazing! It is simply beautiful.

I have large LCD monitor here on my desk at work. When I opened the painting I could see the color of the wall behind it and it looked great - - the walls are painted a salmon or terra cotta. It is a shade of pink and it is very close to the pink you have on Pixel's nose.

Perhaps a light shade of terra cotta OR an aged stucco wall behind Pixel?

Can't wait to see it finished!!

Me too, Fonda. I am leaning towards a salmon-y sort of color.

Yup, Lori, you see correctly. That is actually a reflection of my son, as he was the one who took the shot.
