I love my roommate but I need these 5-6 months away from her too.  She said I could have my Memorial up for a little while but she wanted it down soon.  So I brought it up to camp.  Here I can look at it and remember my sweet girl at a place she loved.

That is beautiful! I always remember this photo of Gracie at the security post (?) gate entrance when you're at camp. I hope Izzy will make new memories with you this year :)

Out of curiosity, why did your roommate want the memorial to come down so soon?

I don't see why your roommate would want you to take down Gracie's memorial. I still have pictures up of our beloved dogs that have passed away years ago.
I was looking at the IGW calendar yesterday. It made me smile when I saw Gracie with her stuffed "lamb chop". I was so excited when I found that for her Secret Santa.
She is back at camp with you this year. Where she should be. :)

So sad that you couldn't leave it up longer, but I am glad you have a lovely place full of good memories with your Gracie girl to honor her memory!

  • Interests:My main interest is loving and caring for my 2 IG girls, Allie and Riley, as well as my cat, Sabrina. I adore all animals, but I have a passion for IGs. This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

I love that the bookends are part of the Gracie memorial. I agree that the memorial should be allowed to stay up. Tara has been gone for almost 7 years and I still have pictures and a painting of her displayed.
Regards from Deb, Allie (6/1/07), and Riley (2/20/09)

Geri....aw geez. I have all my departed  (every damn one) in their marble boxes on a memorial table in the dining area along with a small memorial album. I''m talking 4 greyhounds, a shi-tzu, 1 pin and 1 iglet. My kids, my memorial.

Ok, My roommate Renee loved Gracie very much but to her she was still a dog.  Not a furchild.  When I put up the memorial at home she said, "Are you kidding me, she was a dog?"  I knew then I would have to bring it up here when I came.  It's ok, she was always very loving to Gracie and cared for her when ever I was ill.

Since she did seem to care for Gracie maybe the memorial for her was too painful? People do handle loss differently. When my sister passed and her girls were young one of them did the full on obvious grieving and the other  hurt  but her way of dealing was to act like it never happened and was not important.

I am happy you have a place for Gracies memorial at camp. And you and Izzy will make many new memories there. Perhaps when you go back to the apt you could find a private place for her memorial.
