Marshmellow (with an "e" because he was so mellow), was my hamster for 3 years. I had him since he was 2.5 months old, and he was the little furry furball of my heart. He was always gentle, never bit anyone, and always a little bundle of joy to have around. All of my friends loved him, but he was especially dear to Phil and I. Phil and I bought Marshmellow together, and he meant a lot to us. Marshmellow had a four-story cage, with a fresh seed, veggie, and fruit diet, and lots of love. When Phil and I had to leave Philadelphia this past May, our friend Kim took him. We didn't want to put Marshmellow through the stress of moving at such an old age. Kim took care of him these last 3 months, until he passed away peacefully today.

To some he is "just a hamster," but he was much more than that to me.

Rest in peace, my little Marmie. I hope there are lots of pumpkin seeds, baby carrots, and apple slices in hamster heaven ♥

I'm sorry to hear! I had hamsters, and I actually cried when they died. I actually felt a bit silly crying about it but oh well, it's just how you feel. He sounds like he was the best fed hamster in the USA!

I am very sorry for your loss. Whether they are hamsters, dogs, horses, birds, snakes, or anything else. . .they worm their way into our hearts and make them feel full and whole. When we lose them, they leave a much larger gap than we think would ever be possible.

I won't say I know your pain, because people experience this loss differently. But having lost many near and dear fur babies, I can definitely empathize with you. It sounds like you were a wonderful owner to him, which probably had a lot to do with just how great of a little hamster he was. We're here for you if you need us.

Rest in peace, Marshmellow. Big hugs to you, Alessia.

This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

I remember seeing a picture of him when we first became friends on facebook. I thought, oh what a pretty and cool looking hamster. I know all too well about crying and missing all animals, including the small ones ;). So sorry for your loss and please don't hold onto the guilt of not being with him when he passed, you cared enough about stressing him to leave him behind. You were a good mommy to him and Marshmellow is probably looking down on you saying...'I had an awesome life!' and of course eating all the pumpkin seeds he can handle!

Aw, thanks a lot everyone... it really means a lot to me that you all understand that even losing a little hamster can be tough. :(
I do miss him terribly, though. It's always hard for me to think about how I'll never get to see or touch him again. Just trying to stay positive and remember all the good stuff for now.
 Thanks everyone. We really do have a great community of caring members here. It really shows.
