We adopted Boris and Percy in June of 1995. We had just lost two cats less than a month apart and we were hurting. I was on the BOD of the animal shelter and I called the director with request. I had this craving for a little grey kitten who was calm. Denise just laughed but a week later she called that she had my kitten. He was from a litter of 5 3 black and 2 grey males. When I got to the shelter, I found out that since it was the height of kitten season, the rest of the litter would be euthanized. I already had 5 cats so I knew I couldn't take them all but I said I would take the 2 little grey guys. We named them Boris because he reminded us of a little bear and Percy because he was rather OCD intemperment. The were so tiny ( 1.4 and 1.6 pounds) and it turned out also sick with Coccidia. It was touch and go for about a week, especially for Boris but they both rallied and grew to be my beautiful Faux Russian Blues.
Boris was quite well known at the vet's with a big red lettered caustion on the top of his chart. He was 9 pounds but ready to take on the vet and 2 or 3 of his assistants each year. I think it was because he had seen every vet in the county during that first week and he didn't like them at all. When he was about 7 years old, he mellowed and they all began to appreciate this sweet boy. He loved my cat Nutmeg, who was a year older than he was and thought she was his mother. You could always find him snuggled with her and often Percy, too. He was veryupset when we lost her to cancer almost 2 years ago. He would snuggle with Percy. He was my sweet lap cat at the computer and would sit with me every night as I read IG Whispers and played games. He loved to have me quetly stroke his chest and tummy as he sat on my lap - purring his sweet Boris purr.
Thankfully, he didn't suffer for long. What we thought was beginning kidney disease was cancer. When I brought him in today, he was very anemic and his belly was distended. Ed tapped the fluid and also did an ultrasound and found cancer. Just last week, his bloodwork was fine except for a slight elevation in his kidney numbers.
We let him go just a little before noon this morning - 2 days before his birthday. He can go see his 3 other littermates and Mama Meg (Nutmeg). He will also be meeting all of our other wonderful kitties and my childhood dogs.
I will miss you so much my sweet Bo!

Boris is the handsome grey guy looking right into the camera.

Boris' dates should read - 4/25/1995 to 4/23/2012

Doreen, I am so sorry to hear about Boris. As hard as it is to let him go, you know in your heart that you did the right thing. It sounds like Boris lived a long, happy life with you. Hugs to you and the rest of your gang.

Thanks, Kim - I actually feel better now than I did this morning when he was suffering. Percy is sitting with me right now - just like Boris would. We can comfort each other.

This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

It is always hard to say good-bye...I too lost a loved pet a few weeks ago and as much as I wish Thumper was still here, letting him go was the best thing...
Sending warm wishes and thoughts your way....

Hi Doreen, I'm sorry to hear of your loss and the hard decision. Boris sounded like he had a wonderful life with you and your family. That life was further enhanced by your decision to home Percy as well, they look like best buddies in the photos. Big hugs from me and iggie kisses from Yanni

Boris is home again. I picked up his ashes yesterday along with his pawprint made in clay. We got a pretty granite marker for the garden with his birth and death dates. His marker joins the 6 others for the kitties we have lost since we moved here in 2000.
I feel better with him home. Percy is doing well - still clingy but it helps us both. He's helping me type this. Posted Image
