We pick up Vino's ashes this afternoon from our vet.

My best friend had already sent us a gift of a remembrance box to put his ashes in that also has two spots for pictures. Or instead of his ashes, we can put some of his favorite toys/collar/tags/whatever in.

I'm still kind of in a weird spot on my feelings on the whole thing. This weekend will be two weeks that he's been gone. I admit, I kinda broke down when hubby im'd me to tell me the vet had called to say Vino was back and ready for us to pick up. It just hit me like a ton of bricks....finality? I don't know.

I'm hoping having "him" back with us helps...friends have said it does...

This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I remember the day I picked up my Tara's ashes like it was yesterday. I cried in the car on the way to the vet and then I sat in the car outside the office trying to compose myself. Finally, I just decided to go in there with my tear-stained face. I needed to have my girl with me again. I am glad I have her with me in my home but I still miss my girl every day. It has been almost 5 years. I hope having Vino at home with you comforts you a bit.

Ditto, when I got Corey's and Kirby's ashes I cried almost as hard as when I helped them over the bridge, but having them home with me helps so much! They are now in a beautiful urn on my fireplace mantel under a portrait that I had done of them a few years back. And like Deb and anyone else here who has lost a special and well loved dog, I miss them so much. Please take care.

I remember when I picked up Fig's ashes....it was 5 years ago and might even be to the day. I had to go to the crematorium to get her ashes and the attendant was very sweet and said "I am sorry for your loss" several times. I was numb when I walked in and then, surrounded by urns and memorial items I felt a lump rise in my throat and that deep ache in my heart rose up....it was all I could do to finish the transaction and take Fig's ashes. I sobbed in the car and could not drive for a full half hour.

I can't say that having her ashes makes me feel any better, but I am glad I have them.

As you can see....many of us are intimately familiar with how you are feeling right now. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss and I hope it helps to have him back home with you. It has helped me come to terms with the loss of my cats.

I forgot to add - I love the picture of him you posted. He was very handsome and that is a sweet picture.

He's home with us Posted Image Amazingly, it feels really good to have him here.

I was expecting a generic urn with his ashes in it, but we received this:

It's handcarved - the picture/flash do not do it justice.....I put his tags on top of it just a moment ago. Hubs had the pic printed to put on top of it as well. That was from last year, we'd gone out fishing and taken him. That boy loved to go fishing.

Hi Melissa,
I'm a little confused. Are you saying that the carved box underneath the picture is the container that you received Vino's ashes in ? 'Cos that is absolutely gorgeous.

It makes the perfect stage for you guys to add the picture and tags and make it extra special.

Have read most of your posts, Vino was dearly loved and left suddenly at a young age. I can only send blessings on behalf of Yanni and myself, cheers Deb

Yes, that's the container we received his ashes in. I'd thought we'd receive a generic urn, then select a container we liked at another time to move his ashes over to it. We're going with what he came back home in. It is absolutely gorgeous.
