Here is the latest painting, just finished today. This one is titled 'Clock in the Woods'. That is my child self and Pixel, taking refuge. As with all of these recent paintings, it took a month of close to full time work to do, but I am pleased with the result. I will post a detail below.

  • Interests:My main interest is loving and caring for my 2 IG girls, Allie and Riley, as well as my cat, Sabrina. I adore all animals, but I have a passion for IGs. This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

You did it AGAIN Gwen!!

You evoked all kinds of childhood memories with your painting! This time it revolves around vivid memories of those sorrowful paintings of big eyed cats and dogs by Walter Keane (& Margaret Keane as well?).....

Yeah, I wish I could say that I am the only one doing the big eyed thing, but there are a whole bunch of people working in the pop surrealism genre who do it. And yes, we are all inspired by the Keane's kitschy paintings. Walter Keane was actually a student of the same drawing master I studied with in art school. Mr. Borge (the genius drawing teacher) told Walter to cut out that big eyed thing as it was hopelessly stupid, but Keane replied that he was going to make a lot of money. He and his wife were in fact the most successful artists of the sixties- much to the wry surprise of Borge. Borge's having him as a student assures me that while Margaret won the court battle in the question of who actually produced the paintings, Walter did at least have a hand in it.

Gwen, your work is fantastic!!! I love the eyes and the close dependence of the child and her Iggy. I see hints of Narnia here...with the woods and clock/wardrobe. Thanks so much for sharing.

You do lovely work . Our Roxy will not be with us a lot longer, she is in cardiac failure. At some point I will want to have a portrait done of her as a memorial. I am taking lots of extra pic and some videos of her to try and capture her personality. But mostly for now we just try and pretend she will be with us forever and love every moment we have left. Our brains have excepted the reality but our hearts can not seem to catch up.
