This is my first time doing SS with IGW...and I'm nervous! I'm not very creative..and I worry my gifts won't be creative enough, or varied enough. I've bought several things already, and I hope my iggy recipient(s) will like them, but I have a sort of mental block when it comes to what else to get. I hear people are shopping online, and I'm having a hard time figuring out where people shop for SS sort of stuff... Also, I didn't know I'd have to wrap everything... is this typical? do most people wrap all their gifts? Do you usually get things for the iggy human parent(s) too? I know it's not a competition, but I'm feeling the pressure to adhere to a standard I don't know about. Any tips for a first time Secret Santa participant?? Don't feel like you have to meet some sort of standard. Yes, some of us get a little crazy. You can pack your gifts however you want. I do wrap things because I like to & alot of iggies like opening their presents. I buy for the iggy & parent. There are alot of iggy related things on CafePress. I have also found some things on Amazon. I like sending something that has to do with where I live (Wisconsin). Whatever you get your S.S., I'm sure will be perfect. Don't feel like you have to spend a ton of money. Have fun.
The best part is seeing the pictures (or videos) of the iggies opening their boxes.

This passion began with my first IG, Tara, who is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I love anything that involves IGs; spending time with Allie and Riley, attending East Coast IG Rescue events, SHOPPING for Allie's and Riley's wardrobes, and of course, communicating with other IG Whispers members. Aside from IGs, my interests include reading a variety of genres and being with friends and family, especially my 13 year old niece, Ella. Professionally, I am a reading specialist for first and second grades. Although I enjoy teaching, the best thing about my job is the long summer vacation, during which I am free to spend endless hours with Allie and Riley.

Alessia, don't feel that you have to go crazy with the SS experience. Some of us go bonkers. I shop all year long for the iggies and parents that I get and I do this because that's what I like to do, but this is certainly not expected. Although I always appreciate the gifts my girls receive, the giving is my favorite part. And you absolutely do not have to wrap the gifts. I do it because I think it's fun. In all honesty, I think my girls had more fun the year my Secret Santa didn't wrap the gifts because they were able to climb into the box and pull out the toys. I have fun opening wrapped gifts, but my girls don't realize that wrapped gifts are for them. Whatever you get for your recipient will be appreciated. Nobody is holding you to any kind of standard or judging you. I hope you will be able to relax and enjoy yourself because that's what the exchange is all about. Oh, and you don't have to shop online. I am an online shopping fiend so that's where I get most of my gifts, but gifts from the local pet store are just as perfect. I don't want to give you too many gift ideas because I might be giving away everything that I sent to my recipient, but they should arrive on Friday and then you'll know what I sent. And again, don't worry when you see all of the gifts I sent. It is not typical to go quite as overboard as I do. I just can't help myself! Have fun with this.
Regards from Deb, Allie (6/1/07), and Riley (2/20/09)

Sometimes I wrap presents, sometimes I don't. I try to find some things locally but sometimes I find some good online deals. I am sure whatever you do will be great! I just want to see the pictures of everyone. :)

Yes it is true, some of us go crazy. The first couple years I did SS, I filled stockings, then I didn't wrap or fill stockings, last
year I might have did stockings again, this year I think I may wrap, just cuz I
like wrapping gifts. I find it fun. Please don't feel pressure, it isn't a
contest. It is supposed to be fun. I know how you feel though, the first year
I did it, I really didn't know anyone of the forum cuz it was my first year and
I felt like I wouldn't do it justice. I would do whatever feels comfortable to
you. I am actually probably the only person that does not buy gifts all year
round. I actually like to find out who I get first. I kinda know what a person
likes or how many dogs, plus I do not like buying lots of toys or treats just
incase the person doesn't want toys or treats for their pup/pups. To each his
own though. Everyone has their own way of doing things and everyone just has
fun. I too buy online, but I always keep my eye open when I go shopping for
neat little trinkets, I also do alot of craft show shopping and dog show
shopping where I find alot of cool things.

Ewe gross I don't like the font of my last post. I had to save my response in my wordpad cuz my computer kicked me off the net. Sorry :)

BarkingDeals.com is another good source. :) I'm not participating this year, but I can tell you from experience that it really IS about the fun of anticipation and watching your IG(s) go bonkers because there is New Stuff They've Never Seen Before for them to play with (whether it's toys, food, clothes--or, as was the case with my parents' dog last year, the paper it came in!).

Wrap or don't wrap--it's all good. I always save my gifties (and those for Ems) until Christmas Day, unless the giver specifically says not to do it--so it doesn't matter whether the "innards" are wrapped or not. :)

Above all--HAVE FUN! That's what it's all about, anyway!

I worried too my first, year my second year, my ... You get the idea. I'm on a fixed income with disability and don't have a lot extra to spend so I do buy all year as I see something I like that I think an iggie would like. I get something for my iggie parent now that I know who it is and I always add something from my hometown into the box too. And I add a letter and pictures of Gracie to our SS recipient. Mine might not be the biggest box but it comes from the heart and that is what counts.[img]http://www.igwhispers.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/beatingheart.gif[/img] As others have said just have fun with it. and take lots of pictures when you get your box. I agree with everything that was said Alessia.....I usually look at what my dogs love..and let them be my guide on what I would buy. For the person....I would do a little gift from Bath and Body Works...or one year I uploaded some pics of their dogs and had a coffee mug made at Costo Photo...did it all online and the Mug was mailed to me by the next week. But, the decision is totally up to you. The Dollar Store has great wrapping paper and tissue paper, by the way..
